In the High Valley that forms its headwaters, the Salmon River looks more like a meandering stream. It flows toward the Sawtooth mountains seen in the distance, to eventually cross the state of Idaho, emptying into the Snake River just North of Hells Canyon on the Idaho Oregon border.
